Wake Windows
Let’s talk about daytime wake windows. Simply - wake windows are the time between a child’s wake time and their next nap or overnight sleep. Wake windows are typically determined by a child’s age, but other individual factors may also contribute to a proper wake windows. All children are different (which is why there is a range of time suggested) - so it is important to figure out what works best for your family.
After gauging a general idea of what your child’s wake window should be (based on their age), you will also want to look for tired cues to really see when your little one might be ready for a nap. Putting an overtired child to bed can be just as challenging, so you will want to look for some sleep cues. Sleep cues, especially for babies, may include:
Putting a hand to their face (rubbing eyes, pulling ears, fluttering eyelids
Cries inconsolably - does not calm down when picked up or held, very hard to console
Yawns
Becomes clingy
